Use HP on anything possible, unless ballistics are a bad idea, then use their DR weakness, or if you have better weapons/skills choices.A great example is the.44 revolver with HP and set up for crits like Sloul talks about. Of course it isn't always the right tool for the right job, but compare that against some AP ammo and it will impress.
For AP, just pick something from the table that is comparable, or even compare 'JHP' to the 'FMJ'.44 variants. Those eye-shots that bypass armor are awesome.
