SynopsisBorn in what is now Hungary circa 406, Attila the Hun, 5th century king of the Hunnic Empire, devastated lands from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean, inspiring fear throughout the late Roman Empire. Dubbed 'Flagellum Dei' ('Scourge of God'), Attila consolidated power after murdering his brother to become sole ruler of the Huns, expanded the rule of the Huns to include many Germanic tribes and attacked the Eastern Roman Empire in wars of extraction.

He never invaded Constantinople or Rome, and left a divided family following his death in 453. Taking Control of the Hunnic EmpireBorn in Pannonia, a province of the Roman Empire (present-day Transdanubia, Hungary), circa 406, Attila the Hun and his brother, Bleda, were named co-rulers of the Huns in 434. Upon murdering his brother in 445, Attila became the 5th century king of the Hunnic Empire, and the sole ruler of the Huns.Attila united the tribes of the Hun kingdom and was said to be a just ruler to his own people. But Attila was also an aggressive and ruthless leader. He expanded the rule of the Huns to include many Germanic tribes and attacked the Eastern Roman Empire in wars of extraction, devastating lands from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean, and inspiring fear throughout the late Roman Empire.

According to data from the National Association of Home Builders, the median price of constructing a single-family home is $289,415, or $103 per square foot.

Welcome to!A subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. I think giving up on Britain and coming back for it later is fine. The problem with playing WRE is that the auto-resolve stats are glitched. You can actually defend most of your provinces in Lugdunensis and Aquitania with garrisons if you micro defenses properly.

The problem is that you have to do it over, and over, and over again. It's not that hard. It's just dreadfully boring. In every WRE campaign I've played, I give up provinces out of sheer boredom.

It wouldn't be an issue if they made auto-resolve a little more interesting, or added more diversity to town maps. The economy seems to stabilize if you hold onto North Africa. I recommend building income-generating assets in Hispania, North Africa, and Italia. The rationale is that these make nice, easily-defensible rear areas for when you decide to mass all your armies to push out again.Once you staunch the bleeding and knock out some of the incoming Germanic stacks, I'd focus on reclaiming Britain.

Like Hispania, Britain is relatively easy to defend once it's secure. The real shit-show is Pannonia and Dalmatia. The Huns and Goths running through here are terrible once ERE collapses, especially when they spawn ugly Roman client states like Illyria. After securing Britain and maybe Belgica, I'd really focus on developing my economy and imperium before heading east. Settlement defense is 90% of why I've gotten sick of my WRE Legendary campaigns. I've gotten to the point of resettling and whupping on Attila without losing more than a couple of frontier ones, but by that point I never want to play the game anymore.IME another critical thing is learning to fight with stacks of 10 units vs enemy stacks of 20. Helps to have garrison. No other way to get enough area coverage.

Early game the unit quality difference makes this totally viable, later on cash and tech make it unnecessary. IME another critical thing is learning to fight with stacks of 10 units vs enemy stacks of 20. Helps to have garrison.

No other way to get enough area coverage. Early game the unit quality difference makes this totally viable, later on cash and tech make it unnecessary.Totally. Even a few extra Legios added to a garrison can mean the difference between fending off 1 full stack of barbarians and versus 2. This is also why some of those defensive WRE buildings are well worth the slot they take up. Move all the armies to Italy and it's neighboring provinces Narbonensis, Raetia et Noricum and Dalmatia. Also keep the Aquitania province in control as the goldmine can bring in a lot of cash. Dismantle every building from every settlement you left behind, but do not raze them yourself otherwise you will have very large public order penalties in your core settlements.

Just let them rebel. You get a ton of money just by dismantling the buildings.Kill off the Suebians in Aquitania, either by defeating them in defensive siege battles, or use two to three armies and mercenaries to easily take them down.At the same time prepare to defend the eastern border in Dalmatia and Raetia et Noricum from the barbarian hordes. Kill all hordes, even those who are not yet at war with you as they just raid your land and strike where you have no garrison. Also remember to recruit all available agents, priests and champions in the first few turns before losing the abandoned settlements to rebellions. If I recall correctly, you actually lose imperium (and that means the agent cap lowers) when you lose a lot of settlements so having the extra agents recruited before the imperium drop, you are able to keep them. Same goes for the governors and armies.Use the Ecumenical Matters edict in your core provinces to easily convert them to 90-100% latin christianity. Do not convert your faction to roman pagan, because their buildings use a crapload of food which is really bad in the mid-late game.Build garrison buildings to the border regions and fight every defensive siege battle even if it may seem impossible to win. 1: Quadians will attack one of your settlement on turn one.

If you can manage to obliterate the attacking force you can send the defensive army straight to their capital and make them your puppet state.2: Try to maintain healthy relationship with Alamans and Franks. Try and set up some common enemies wlike the Nords.3: If you can set up a friendly relationship with Alamans, their relationship with the Suebian will deteriorate overtime since Suebian like to raid you. Take proper opportunity to fuck the Suebian up like joining war for Suebian's enemy.4: If the African nations started as friends then you can delaying investing in African region. However remember such good relationship will not last forever.

If the successor is a unreliable warlike roman hater war will break out soon. Kill them all and raze Sahara to the ground if ERE holds the Egypt alright.5: Most of the time Britain is not easy to defend. If you can spare a army and a navy you can destroy the Celtic tribes once and for all after a decisive siege defense. If you do, remember the Nords can cross deep ocean safely so you need at least two navies to defend Britain from Nordic raiders.6: If you switch back to Paganism, Roman rebel nations are not a bad buffer choice since you will have both cultural affinity and religious affinity bonus.7: Don't let the Goths settle down along the coast of Greece.

If they are landlocked you can leave them to ERE.8: If everyone starts as Roman hater empire hater and aggressive, remember you can always restart a new game.9: Levy some Germanic cavalry since they are the fastest ones you can get and may be useful against Hunnic horse archers. Have a army follow the Suebian and levy the troops you need but can't produce. In the end you can crush the Suebian with the levies them send them to fight the Huns.10: Kill all Hunnic prisoners, it provides great diplomatic bonus with Germanic tribes since they are usually pretty pissed at Huns themselves.10: Provinces without tax don't need food at all. Spam guardhouse, higher level town, equipment building and recruitment buildings in all frontier provinces and cancel taxes in these provinces. Equipping frontier with guardhouse would be your first investment. And demolishing churches could provide you with such funds.11: Rush for Legios and Com Spears because Cohorts and Lim Guards are just pathetic.

Also it solves your integrity problem. With Legio or Legio Coms and West Spears Aux you can take some time to research civil techs since these two a will be sufficient for siege defense for quite some time.12: Slinger are great, but you should try to recruit as many Germanic slinger as possible instead of Roman slingers since they suck. Non Roman units also help with unkeep cost.13: You probably don't need to or have the resources to develop professional cavalry. Just learn to appreciate Scouts cavalry. Develop them outside the city to fuck up enemy range and siege when their melee are engaging your melee.

They may be the weakest cavalry unit, but they are still a terror to face for range and siege14: if you are lucky enough to capture a horse breeding building, keep it since you can't build any horse breeding building yourself but you can upgrade your cavalry with barbarian or Eastern horse breeder. I abandoned Britain and destroyed my churches as they cost money! Then built I think the barracks in their place. Or whatever building it is that provides extra garrison troops.I ended up defending the hell out of the north, keeping buffers between me and the hordes.

Whilst doing that I took Africa piecemeal and tried keeping an alliance with the ERE until they were at war with everyone. Then I betrayed them and took their portion of Africa. Everyone liked me because of that and I got trade + alliances easily. In the very beginning (first 10 turns) several barbarians on your borders are weak. Go smash them, kill them, raze them.

Everybody that dies right now can not come back later with ai cheat money and throw stack after stack at you (this + diplo control as shown below and you won´t have to suffer thru endless amounts of defensive sieges). Find a whipping boy.

That you sack over and over and invite other babariens in the process to divert their attention and gain diplo brownie points. Restructure your complete lands.

Massive amounts of demolishing and rebuilding have to be done. City centres have to be downgraded to free up money to build more po buildings etc (make yourselfe a spreadsheet and think things really thru).

Give land away in a controlled fashion. While it is possible to hold all lands it does not benefit you. Your corruption is to high. Everything above 50% tends to mean that more lands just means less money. Wait for the rebellion, loose the defense on purpose after weakening the enemy severly then raze that shit with an army close by to not allow new nations that hate you to spawn. Additonal note: If either britain or africa comes with tribes that have nice faction leader traites and can be kept peaceful your life will be a lot easier since you have one less frontier.

I had this in one of my 2 runs that was a nice surprise. Here are some additional late game WRE tipps:. To fullfill your victory conditions increase your empire only with your -corruption tech, take easter roman provinces to reuse their buildings (also raid your own tradeline with them before that for more diplo power) and stockpile a shitton of money so that you can just sprint out in the very end to resettle a ton of provinces in a very short timeframe just to fullfill the conditions. Big ass catapults are king vs. Position your strong melee behind and use them (after shooting first) as mobile fortresses that will brake the charge of the enemy cavellary. Super effective.

Attila

Try to keep the ERE alive for a loooong time. Perma besiege their last city etc. Everybody hates the romans by fighting them forever lots of barbarians can be turned towards your side. Towards the very end start a big as war you (and all barbs that are left) vs.

All the sassanids to keep everybody occupied. I'm doing a WRE campaign right now. I found that using diplomacy and persuading neutral or unfriendly factions to go to war with your enemies is a good way of diverting their armies away from you and building good relations.

Attila What To Build A Wall

Caledonians attacking you Britain? Pay the Picts or Edbanians to attack them in the rear. Its pretty easy to get everyone to declare war on those asshole Quadians too. If one of the Africa factions (usually Maurians) attack you, ask the other 2 to go to war and set a war coordination point with ERE.
